About Me

About Virginia
Hi, I’m Virginia Longo, founder of Purposeful Play Therapy Center and a pediatric occupational therapist who truly loves working with children. I am passionate about helping kids build confidence, develop new skills, and participate fully in the activities that make up their everyday lives.
Education and Professional Background
Virginia Longo, OTR/L is a graduate of Smith College where she earned her undergraduate degree in psychology with a focus on brain and cognition. Following her undergraduate studies, she worked for the Brain Injury Association of Connecticut as the Director of Education and Outreach, supporting individuals and families affected by brain injury while providing education and training throughout the community. Virginia later returned to school to pursue her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy at Springfield College. She has worked in a variety of clinical settings including early intervention, schools, orthopedics, and brain injury rehabilitation. Through these experiences, pediatric occupational therapy became her true passion. Virginia completed her Doctorate in Occupational Therapy at Bay Path University.
Approach to Therapy
Virginia’s approach is strengths based, practical, and focused on helping children gain independence while reducing frustration in daily activities. She enjoys collaborating with families, teachers, and school teams to create supportive environments where children can succeed both academically and socially. Through Purposeful Play Therapy Center, Virginia provides occupational therapy services for schools, private clients, and professional development workshops for educators.
A Little More About Me
Outside of work, Virginia enjoys spending time outdoors. Gardening, being in nature, and caring for her chickens are some of her favorite ways to relax and recharge. She also enjoys crafting and being creative, which often inspires the playful, hands on activities she incorporates into therapy sessions. She is also a fan of scary movies and loves a good spooky story almost as much as watching a child master a skill they once found challenging.

School Contracts
Occupational Therapy services can be challenging within a school district. Often schools and school OTs struggle to find time for evaluations and reports in addition to providing intervention to kiddos on a daily basis. Leave coverage, illness and short staffing ratios can cause a child to have delays and missed services within the school environment. Purposeful play can help keep your school environment compliant with federal mandates by providing both short and long term contracts within your schools distract.
